Friends of the Lusitania

501(c)(3) Nonprofit

Friends of the Lusitania is 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization formed for the purpose of funding the construction of the Lusitania Museum at Old Head in Kinsale, Ireland. There exists no museum or national U.S. monument to 1,201 victims who died on the Lusitania during her 1915 voyage from the U.S. to England. The Lusitania rests in only 300 feet of water 11 miles off the coast of Kinsale. This site contains essays on her history and attempts to dive and explore her cargo holds. Friends of the Lusitania seeks to protect the wreckage site, owned by the museum, from looting (and to manage eventually, in connection with the Irish ministry of culture and heritage, a maritime archaeological expedition to penetrate her hull and explore her cargo holds after the museum is built). Friends of the Lusitania is managed by a three-person board of directors.
